The Timberwolves have officially signed center Luka Garza and small forward CJ Elleby, the team announced in a press release.
Garza, 23, is 6-foot-11 and spent last season as a rookie with the Pistons. He was selected with the No. 52 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and averaged 5.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 32 appearances.
He signed a two-year deal with the Pistons last September, but the second year of the deal was a team option, which Detroit declined. That made him an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Elleby, 22, is 6-6 and was selected by the Trail Blazers with the No. 46 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He spent the past two years with the Blazers, averaging 5.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 58 games last season.
The Timberwolves currently have 12 players under standard contracts, perhaps putting Garza and Elleby in line to become affiliate players with the G League’s Iowa Wolves.
Minnesota has had a fairly notable offseason, trading for Rudy Gobert and signing the likes of Austin Rivers, Kyle Anderson and Eric Paschall in free agency.
