Five-star big man Dereck Lively II has committed to Duke, giving soon-to-be-coach Jon Scheyer what many consider to be the top recruiting class of 2022.
Lively is 7-foot-1 and chose Duke over over the likes of Kentucky, North Carolina, Michigan, USC and Florida State, as relayed by Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog. He visited both Duke and Kentucky in June and is ranked the No. 1 center in the class of 2022 by 247Sports.
Lively is entering his senior season with the Westtown School Moose, a private boarding school in West Chester, Pa.
Meanwhile, Scheyer is taking over for legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski ahead of the 2022-23 season.
NBADraft.net has Lively ranked as a first-round pick in its 2023 mock draft.
“After this week, six players from the Team Final squad that won Peach Jam will have reclassified or committed to college following Lively, Jalen Duren (Memphis), Corey Floyd Jr. (UConn), Justice Williams (LSU) and Jameel Brown (Penn State). Blair Academy guard Otega Oweh is due to announce Friday,” Zagoria wrote.
