Lakers
We’re less than a month from the trade deadline, which means the Lakers news will only increase. Hard to believe, but it’s true.
As we relayed earlier, the Lakers have interest in Hawks guard Dejounte Murray. But Atlanta isn’t going to give him away. Instead, LA reportedly would have to surrender a first-round pick, and that’s just for starters.
The Hawks may also want guard Austin Reaves, among others. But would the Lakers want to part with Reaves, who was their third-best player behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the playoffs?
Well, maybe not, according to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times.
“The Lakers, though, have shown no interest in trading Reaves despite some defensive regression this season, and even if they did flip him for Murray, there’s real skepticism that it would ‘move the needle,” Woike wrote.
- Woike added that the Lakers are all in after James turned 39. No surprise there. They’re always all in. “Because of that, the Lakers, almost no matter what, are in ‘go for it’ mode, but with a caveat. One of the two biggest pillars of the roster just turned 39 and is playing in Year 20,” Woike wrote. “Despite what the commercials tell you, eventually, time always wins.”
Pacers
The Pacers are believed to be the leaders in the clubhouse for Raptors power forward Pascal Siakam. But perhaps not at any cost.
For instance, the Raptors are seeking either guard Bennedict Mathurin or rookie power forward Jarace Walker in any trade for Siakam, per Kurt Helin of NBC Sports. Good luck with that.
“The Pacers are not interested in trading away their young talent for a player they can sign as a free agent this summer (the Pacers have a lot of salary cap flexibility),” Helin wrote. “Plus, if Indiana did trade for him, there would be no guarantee he would stay. The vibe in league circles is that Siakam will go to the team this summer that offers him the most money, but many GMs are wary of giving him max money, thinking that is somewhat of an overpay for him.”
Mavericks
The Mavericks are another team that’s been linked to Siakam, and many around the NBA seem to believe that’s where he’ll end up after all is said and done.
Adding Siakam to guards Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving very well could put Dallas up there with the defending champion Nuggets when it comes to Western Conference favorites.
“I know there are absolutely people in Dallas who really think Pascal is a missing piece that could potentially pair with Luka and Kyrie Irving and all of a sudden you look up and the Mavericks off are a legitimate contender in the West,” said Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
The Lakers are reportedly unsure if trading Austin Reaves for Dejounte Murray would move the needle, per @DanWoikeSports
