Veteran guard Victor Oladipo is headed to the G League with the Wisconsin Herd, the Bucks’ affiliate, per a team release.
Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports was first to note that Oladipo had entered the G League player pool after spending his fall playing preseason ball with Guangzhou of the CBA. Fischer later added that Santa Cruz claimed him, then traded his returning rights to the Herd.
Oladipo is 33 now. Injuries have robbed years from what once looked like a long-term All-Star career, but he can still hoop. In three preseason games in China, he averaged 19.3 points in 27.9 minutes on .467 shooting. He also added 3.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals.
He worked out for NBA teams in Las Vegas over the summer. Scouts from Europe were there too. He told Sam Yip of HoopsHype he was not opposed to playing overseas, but made it clear the NBA is still the goal.
“You know, if push comes to shove and that’s the last option, we’ll see. I’m definitely one of the best. So that’s where I belong is the three letters: N-B-A,” he told Yip, laughing.
Back in 2017-18, Oladipo was an All-NBA third team guard, All-Defensive first team, Most Improved Player, MVP votes, DPOY votes, all of it. He averaged 23.1 points and led the Pacers into the playoffs.
Then the quad tendon ruptured in 2019, another surgery came in 2021, and his last NBA stop ended with a torn patellar tendon in Miami in April 2023.
Now he will try to write one more chapter in Wisconsin.
