Likely No. 1 overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama made his debut with the French national team against Lithuania and once again left the basketball world impressed.
Wembanyama, 18, is 7-foot-2 and plays like both an old-school center and modern-day guard. He scored 20 points in 23 minutes, grabbing nine rebounds, all while playing against some seasoned pros.
“You can just imagine his size watching him on the internet and videos,” Lithuanian coach Kestutis Kemzura said, via Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews. “But when a player like Victor comes, you realize his true size. He makes a big impact defensively. Even if we get inside in the paint, we couldn’t see the rim.”
France blasted Lithuania by a 95-60 count. When Weymbanyama was on the court, France outscored its opponent by 25 points.
“I was not nervous at all,” Wembanyama tld reporters. “I was really hungry to get that win tonight. All of us had a lot of fun out there.”
Well, maybe all of them except for Lithuania.
