There’s a pretty strong sense that Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins will be traded ahead of Thursday’s deadline, and the interest is undoubtedly there.
Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Indiana Pacers and Dallas Mavericks have both shown a desire to add Wiggins. Obviously, there’s a difference between “interest” and pulling the trigger on a deal, but you have to start somewhere.
And it wouldn’t hurt the Warriors to try to make a move, either. Most around the NBA don’t expect them to get very far as currently constructed.
“The Mavericks and Pacers are two teams, I’m told, that are expressing interest in Wiggins,” Charania said on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back.
Wiggins is averaging 12.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists, shooting 44 percent from the floor and 31 on 3-pointers. He signed a four-year, $109 million extension with the Warriors in 2022.
Per Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Warriors won’t need to attach draft capital to move Wiggins
“Wiggins profiles as the most likely Warrior to be dealt,” Slater wrote in his NBA report. “He’s on the first season of a four-year, $109 million extension. The Warriors have fielded player-for-player offers for Wiggins, according to team and league sources. They wouldn’t have to attach a draft pick to get off his deal.”
Both the Pacers and Mavericks are said to be on the lookout for additional help in the frontcourt. Indiana, of course, already added some in forward Pascal Siakam, acquired in a trade with the Toronto Raptors last month.
