Warriors small forward Andrew Wiggins has been placed in the NBA health and safety protocol, as relayed by Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
Wiggins will now need to wait 10 days or return two negative tests in a 24-hour span to exit the protocol.
Wiggins, of course, is not alone. More than 60 players overall have entered protocols, with the NBA postponing five games on Sunday. He is also the second Warriors starter to enter protocols, joining shooting guard Jordan Poole.
Wiggins, 26, is 6-foot-7 and averaging 18.7 points and 4.5 rebounds in 29 games this season.
The NBA reportedly has a vaccination rate of 97 percent, but like the NFL and NHL, is experiencing a major outbreak of positive tests and players entering protocol. The Associated Press reported Thursday evening that about 8 percent of NBA players were in protocol. That number has likely doubled since the AP’s report.
