Warriors forward Draymond Green is not likely to face a suspension for stepping on the chest of Kings big man Domantas Sabonis in Game 2 of their playoff series, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The incident occurred in the second half of the Kings’ win, resulting in a flagrant foul 2 for Green and an immediate ejection. Sabonis grabbed Green’s leg while on the floor, with Green attempting to shake free and then stomping on Sabonis’ chest and rib area.
Green claimed it was the second time in two games that he had his foot grabbed by a Kings player. The first was guard Malik Monk, Green said.
Green reportedly requested to have an X-ray on his ankle after the game, as a result of Sabonis pulling on it, as we relayed here.
“My leg got grabbed. Second time in two nights,” Green told reporters. “Referees just watch it. I gotta lay on my foot somewhere and I’m not the most flexible person, so it’s not stretching that far. … I can only step so far with someone pulling my leg away.”
Green exchanged words with some fans after the incident, though he remained on the floor at the time and it’s not considered something the league will review. He is not expected to be suspended.
The defending champions trail the series, 2-0, with Game 3 scheduled for Thursday at Golden State. It marks the first time the Warriors have trailed a series 2-0 in the Steph Curry era.
“It’s exciting, right?” Green said of the deficit. “It’s a new challenge. After the game, I was thinking that: This is something we haven’t seen yet. And we’ve conquered all the rest of them, so why not go conquer this one? It will be a lot of fun.”
Green is likely to be fined for the incident, Charania reported.
