Warriors’ Draymond Green: Steph Curry shouldn’t return if there’s doubt

Warriors forward Draymond Green knows what’s at stake. He also knows when to be careful.

As Stephen Curry works his way back from a knee injury, Green made it clear he doesn’t want his longtime teammate rushing anything.

“If he has an inkling of doubt, he shouldn’t play,” Green said, via Sam Gordon of the San Francisco Chronicle. “But if he’s healthy and he can play, then I’m all for it.”

Curry is expected to be reevaluated in the coming days, with hopes that a return could still be on the table. At this stage of his career, every postseason opportunity matters. Green sees that, too.

“You just know he wants to play,” he said. “He wants to be out there.”

Still, the uncertainty has lingered.

“And when he hasn’t come back yet… that’s when you start looking at the clock,” Green added. “Not like, ‘When’s he coming back?’ But more like, what’s going on?”

Golden State is sitting in the play-in range in the Western Conference, dealing with injuries and trying to stay afloat. Without Curry, the margin for error is thin.

Green has taken on more of the leadership load in the meantime.

“You just can’t be the guy that quits when it gets tough,” he said. “When things go a little left, you can’t jump off the train.”
