Warriors get glimpse of what could be with Porzingis, Melton

For one night, it all clicked.

Kristaps Porzingis and De’Anthony Melton combined for 57 points in the Warriors’ 125-117 win over Washington, snapping a five-game skid and offering a look at what Golden State hopes can stick, as Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area noted.

Porzingis finished with 30. Melton added 27. More than the numbers, it was the fit. Spacing. Movement. Options.

Both players are headed toward free agency. Porzingis will be unrestricted, while Melton is expected to decline his player option and test the market. Keeping them suddenly feels more important.

If that happens, the outline is there. Porzingis at center. Draymond Green and Gui Santos up front. Stephen Curry and Melton in the backcourt. Jimmy Butler eventually sliding back in once he’s recovered from a torn ACL.

It’s not just theoretical. Monday showed how it could function.

“Working my way back into good shape,” Porzingis said. “Today I think was a pretty big step forward for me. I was having fun out there… there’s still a lot of room for improvement.”

That last part stands out. Golden State has been searching for consistency. Nights like this suggest the pieces may already be in place. Now it’s about keeping them there.
