According to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Golden State Warriors tried to acquire Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns.
The Suns are not trading Durant.
Lots to unpack with the Warriors, who attempted to make some big swings over the last 72 hours.
Not only did they call the Suns last week about Kevin Durant, but they also held deep talks with the Bulls about LaVine AND Vuc.
Everything then shifted to Butler, which fell apart.

Durant played three seasons with the Warriors, helping the franchise reach three straight NBA Finals in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Golden State won titles in 2017 and 2018, with Durant taking home Finals MVP honors.
In the summer of 2019, Durant left the Warriors for the Brooklyn Nets in free agency. KD played 129 games with the Nets before getting traded to the Suns. The future Hall of Famer requested a trade from Brooklyn.
One of the best scorers in NBA history, Durant is averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists this season for the Suns while shooting 52.5% from the field, 40.5% from beyond the arc and 82.7% from the free-throw line. The two-time champion is making $51.2 million.
The Suns want to acquire Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. However, they have been unable to convince Bradley Beal to waive his no-trade clause.
According to NBA insiders Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst of ESPN, trading for Butler is the Suns’ top objective.
“Phoenix, fighting for positioning in the West play-in race, showed just how desperate it is by trading its unprotected 2031 first-round pick for three lower-value firsts: either the 29th or 30th pick in this year’s draft, plus the worst of Utah, Cleveland and Minnesota’s picks in both the 2027 and 2029 drafts,” Bontemps and Windhorst wrote. “Tuesday’s deal gave the Suns some flexibility in their dealings now but at the cost of mortgaging their future even further. Maybe doing so will help get Jimmy Butler to Phoenix — sources said landing the 35-year-old forward remains the team’s top objective.”
Butler is averaging 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.4 blocks this season while shooting 54.0% from the floor, 36.1% from 3 and 80.1% from the free-throw line.
The Warriors are only 24-24 on the season. They are in 11th place in the West.
Meanwhile, the Suns are 25-23. They are in ninth place in the West.
