Steve Kerr: Warriors Will Assess Roster, Keep Trade Options Open

Coach Steve Kerr said the Warriors have to assess all options with a month to go ahead of the NBA trade deadline, and he’s probably right about that one.Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr, Warriors, NBA

Even after beating the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, the Warriors were a fairly rocky 18-16. In the playoff hunt, yes. But not exactly playoff material.

So, yeah, the Warriors may not be a finished product. But they’re probably gonna use the entire month to decide what comes next.

“I’ve talked to [general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.] about that and I think that makes perfect sense,” Kerr said before the Warriors’ win over Memphis, via ESPN. “We’ve been up and down this year, but we like the group, we like the people we have and we really want to see how we play over the next month and then just keep our options open.

“We’re not in a position to say, ‘Hey, we’re good enough. Let’s just stand firm.’ We have to assess all the options. … [But] for me, it’s let’s see what we can do in these next few weeks and hopefully we settle into this rotation, start shooting the ball better.”

Golden State already made one move, going out and landing Dennis Schroder in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. It’s early, but that deal has yet to move the needle.

Instead, the Warriors continue to look mostly like a one-man show, with Stephen Curry in the starring role. Draymond Green can still agitate people, but no longer does much of anything beyond that. Jonathan Kuminga is on the rise, but has not yet arrived.

The Warriors need help. You know it, they know it, Warriors fans want it. And it could come. But according to Kerr, if that help arrives, it might not be until just before the Feb. 6 deadline to make a deal.
