Free agent center Dwight Howard will meet with Warriors officials next week, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Howard, 37, last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season with the Lakers, appearing in 60 games and averaging career-lows of 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds, shooting 61 percent from the field. He spent last season playing professionally in Taiwan.
Golden State has been on the lookout for veteran depth in the frontcourt, working out the likes of Derrick Favors and Dewayne Dedmon, among others, as we relayed here.
Nevertheless, Howard should be considered a “real option” for the Warriors, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic, who wrote that Howard is the “highest upside candidate on the non-guaranteed flyer front” and that much of it will “depend on his mindset in meetings with team’s decision makers/veterans.”
Howard was at his best with the Magic from 2004-12, leading Orlando to a Finals berth in 2009. He has also spent time with the Rockets, 76ers, Hawks, Hornets, Wizards and served three separate stints with the Lakers. An eight-time All-Star, he last played in the game in 2014.
Warriors have brought in a ton of veteran bigs for workouts the last several weeks. Dwight Howard is highest upside candidate on the non-guaranteed flyer front. Will depend on his mindset in meetings with team’s decision makers/veterans. He’s a real option. https://t.co/SOLpfbw096
