The Warriors are actively exploring the trade market for size and athleticism, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes.
Speaking on NBA on Prime, Haynes said Golden State has identified the frontcourt as a clear area of need, particularly when it comes to rebounding, rim protection and interior scoring.
“They are looking for size and athleticism,” Haynes said. “Rebounding and block shots, they’re in the bottom half of the league. Points in the paint, they are dead last. So they’re looking for an athletic center.”
Haynes identified three players on the Warriors’ list: Dallas center Daniel Gafford, Brooklyn’s Nic Claxton and Portland big man Robert Williams. All three fit the profile of a rim-running, shot-blocking presence, something Golden State believes it lacks.
“I was told they are really serious,” Haynes added. “They are trying to do everything they can to get this team back to championship-contender level.”
Dallas is reportedly open to moving Gafford, with Indiana among the teams showing interest. Any deal would come as the Warriors continue to search for answers during an uneven start.
Golden State is 13-15, and even Stephen Curry acknowledged the reality after a recent loss, saying the Warriors are “not a good team right now.”
