Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry is not real thrilled about losing Splash Brother Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks. But he also seems to understand that basketball at its highest level is a business.
Curry added that his own goal is to finish his career with the Warriors. He said he wished Thompson could have, too.
“We would’ve loved to maintain the core and finish out together,” Curry told reporters at Team USA practice in Las Vegas. “So, you have to be able to celebrate what we accomplished and be able to move.”
Curry added that “it sucks,” when asked about Thompson moving on.
“It’s something that I never imagined would be a reality, but we want him to be happy,” Curry said.
Meanwhile. Warriors coach Steve Kerr, the coach of Team USA, shared similar thoughts.
“This has become a family over the years and people have watched us grow and stay together and succeed and fail,” Kerr said. “So Klay leaves, it’s like, yeah, it’s bizarre for us, it’s bizarre for everybody. [But] everybody is given a ton of freedom here and they have to do what’s in their heart. The best thing for Klay, he needed a change.”
