Warriors’ Stephen Curry Sprains Ankle, Set To Undergo MRI

According to NBA reporter Kendra Andrews of ESPN, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry will undergo an MRI on his right ankle.

Curry sprained his right ankle last night (3/7) against the Chicago Bulls.

Curry has dealt with ankle issues his entire NBA career. The Warriors, who lost to the Bulls, are expecting the two-time MVP to miss games.

“He had his ankle wrap on,” Klay Thompson said. “Icing his ankle. I know we’re going to miss him … if he does have time off. We’ve been in this position before where he has had time off and we have to do it collectively. I know he’ll be ready to go when he does come back.”

The Warriors are in ninth place in the Western Conference standings.

Curry is averaging 26.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists this season while shooting 44.9% from the field, 40.7% from beyond the arc and 92.0% from the free-throw line.

If the season ended today, the Warriors would face the Los Angeles Lakers in the 9-10 play-in tournament game in Golden State. The Lakers beat the Warriors in the second round of the 2023 playoffs in six games.

Golden State also lost to Los Angeles in the play-in game in 2021.

The greatest shooter in NBA history, Curry has career averages of 24.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.4 assists. He has won four rings with the Warriors.

If Curry does miss time, Chris Paul would likely enter the starting lineup in his place. Paul has started 11 games in his first season with the Warriors, but not since early January.

“We know he is more than capable. He’s Chris Paul,” Draymond Green said. “It’s been incredible having C here, but then you have Steph going down — no one is Steph Curry in the NBA. But knowing you are going into the game with a guy who can win you game after game after game, it definitely gives you confidence going in knowing that you are more than capable to win games.”
