The Warriors may be getting their guy back.
Stephen Curry is targeting Sunday’s game against the Rockets for his return, according to Sam Amick and Nick Friedell of The Athletic.
Curry has been out since Jan. 30 with right knee patellofemoral pain syndrome. Now, there’s real movement.
The Warriors said Wednesday that Curry participated in a five-on-five scrimmage and is “continuing to make progress” in his return-to-play protocol. Another scrimmage is expected later this week before a weekend reevaluation.
So, trending the right way.
“He went through a full practice, but it was very light,” coach Steve Kerr said. “We didn’t do anything live.”
A team source told The Athletic that Curry handled the scrimmage well, though his status is still being monitored day to day.
Before the injury, Curry was doing his usual thing. He’s appeared in 39 games, averaging 27.2 points and 4.8 assists.
The timing matters.
Golden State is 10th in the West, holding the final play-in spot. They’re chasing the Trail Blazers and Clippers with only a handful of games left.
“It’s amazing, man,” forward Gui Santos said. “Just to have him out there with us… we have a lot more confidence when we have a guy like Steph on the court.”
