Stephen Curry is staying home. The Warriors star will miss the upcoming road trip to Philadelphia, Cleveland and Chicago as he continues to deal with a left thigh contusion.
That’s at least three more games on the shelf and his absence is now guaranteed to stretch to five.
Curry was scheduled for an official re-check on Thursday, but Steve Kerr got in front of it.
The coach called Curry a “long shot” to return this weekend, so the team decided to leave him in the Bay to work with Rick Celebrini.
Kerr sounded confident that next Friday’s home date with the Timberwolves remains a realistic target, per ESPN’s Anthony Slater.
The Warriors may also begin the trip without Jimmy Butler. He sat out the second half of Tuesday’s loss to the Thunder with a sore left knee.
Butler was already managing a glute contusion and has also dealt with ankle and back soreness early this season for an 11-11 Warriors team searching for any rhythm.
Golden State did show some fight on Tuesday. Down 22 vs. OKC, the Warriors stormed back behind Seth Curry, who scored 14 points in 14 minutes in his debut.
But Shai Gilgeous-Alexander closed the door with 38 points, pushing the Thunder to 21-1 and sending the Warriors on the road still wobbling.
