Warriors coach Steve Kerr said he misspoke while discussing Kristaps Porzingis and his health during a recent radio appearance.

Speaking Friday on 95.7 FM, Kerr said Porzingis had been dealing with a contagious illness that caused significant fluid loss and was not related to postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, or POTS, a condition Porzingis said last October he had been diagnosed with.

Kerr referred to the POTS report as “misinformation,” saying he had spoken with Atlanta general manager Onsi Saleh, who previously worked in Golden State’s front office and dealt Porzingis to the Warriors at the trade deadline.

A day later, Kerr walked back those remarks.

“It was a stupid mistake by me to talk about something that I’m not qualified to talk about,” Kerr said, via Evan Webek of the California Post. “I regretted even trying to discuss the diagnosis. That was my mistake. I need to leave that to the professionals.”

Porzingis has missed four straight games and has appeared in just one game since the trade, logging 17 minutes. Kerr said the forward returned to practice Friday and is feeling better.
