Warriors’ Steve Kerr Reaches Coaching Milestone Amid Scorching Start

Beating the Wizards is no big deal these days, so the Warriors’ road win is hardly viewed as a landmark achievement.Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors, NBA

Then again, nobody probably expected the Warriors to win six of their first seven games, especially when four of them have come without Stephen Curry.

Anyway, there was a Warriors milestone set during this otherwise run-of-the-mill victory, and it involved the head coach.

That would be none other than Steve Kerr, who is in his 10th season with Golden State — the only team he’s coached, actually.

That milestone? Kerr coached his 800th game — becoming the 18th coach to reach that mark with only one team. When you consider the NBA has been around for nearly 80 years, that’s a pretty remarkable achievement.

Of course, true to form, Kerr focused on the win and placed a lot of emphasis on the return of Curry, who tallied 24 points in his return from injury.

“Steph was great,” Kerr told reporters. “The main thing, he just looked like he was moving really well and looked strong and played a great game in his 24 minutes.”

Overall, Kerr admitted that Golden State is pleased with where things are at in the early going — but with road games against the Celtics (7-1) and Cavaliers (8-0) looming, he also understands what’s ahead.

“We love the start; to go 6-1 exceeds our expectations,” he said. “We also know that our schedule has been kind to us. We’ve played some teams who have been injured. We’ve played some young teams.

“It’s about to get a lot harder. We play basically the three best teams in the league the rest of this week. I like our progress, but we have a lot of work ahead.”
