Steve Kerr: Warriors ‘running out of games’ for Stephen Curry return

Time is becoming a factor for the Warriors and coach Steve Kerr isn’t hiding it.

“We’re running out of games,” Kerr admitted when discussing Stephen Curry’s potential return, via the New York Post.

That’s the reality. Curry hasn’t played since Jan. 30 due to a lingering knee injury, and while he’s progressing, he still hasn’t returned to full five-on-five action. The next step is a live scrimmage, followed by another evaluation.

But the clock is ticking. Golden State has fewer than 10 games remaining, and Kerr made it clear the plan isn’t to rush Curry back just to throw him into the play-in.

“He’d need to play some games,” Kerr said. “We need to give him a runway.”

In other words, this isn’t about a cameo. It’s about being ready. That’s where things get tricky.

The Warriors are hovering around the play-in line in the West, meaning Curry’s presence could swing everything. But bringing him back without proper buildup carries risk, especially given the nature of the injury.

So the team is balancing two things: Urgency, and caution.

If Curry can get on the court soon, there’s still a path. If not, the season may come down to what Golden State can do without him.
