The Warriors keep talking. They just haven’t moved.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, the Warriors have had plenty of trade conversations involving Jonathan Kuminga. What they haven’t had is momentum. No deal is close. No breakthrough yet.
Team sources suggest Golden State is comfortable holding onto the 23-year-old beyond the trade deadline if nothing compelling shows up. That may be genuine patience. It may also be leverage. Either way, the message is clear: The Warriors aren’t giving Kuminga away.
There’s also a financial line they won’t cross. Golden State has been unwilling to absorb contracts that extend beyond this season if they’re viewed as negative value. Short-term flexibility matters. So does optionality.
Meanwhile, the front office has at least kicked the tires on the center market. Nothing loud. Nothing urgent. More curiosity than commitment.
That’s where Al Horford enters the picture. Horford has played better since Christmas than he did earlier in the season, and if that trend continues and he stays healthy, Golden State may decide it doesn’t need to chase a big at all.
Which brings it back to Kuminga. The Warriors are listening. They’re surveying. They’re waiting.
And unless someone gives them a reason not to, they may simply stay right where they are.
