The Golden State Warriors need to find a replacement for departed assistant Kenny Atkinson under coach Steve Kerr. They also had another opening, and it appears both spots will be filled.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Warriors intend to hire former Portland Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts and ex-NBA standout guard Jerry Stackhouse. Stotts was up for several jobs this offseason, though landed none. Stackhouse was recently fired as coach at Vanderbilt.
Stotts, 66, spent about 12 weeks with the Bucks as an assistant under Adrian Griffin, but surprisingly stepped aside before the start of the regular season. Griffin was fired before the midway point of his first season as a head coach, replaced by Doc Rivers.
He served as Bucks head coach for parts of two seasons from 2005-07 and as an assistant from 1998-2002.
He coached the Blazers for nine seasons, leading them to the playoffs in each of his final eight. Overall, he is 1,003-507 in 13 seasons with the Blazers, Bucks and Atlanta Hawks.
Stackhouse coached the Commodores for five seasons and compiled a 70-92 record, including a 9-23 mark this past year. Vanderbilt received zero NCAA tournament bids under Stackhouse.
The former North Carolina and NBA standout was hired in 2019 after serving as an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Stackhouse, 49, appeared in 970 career NBA games with the Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets from 1995-2013.
He carries NBA career averages of 16.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists, making the All-Star team on two occasions (1999-2000 and 2000-01).
Atkinson left to become head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
