The Golden State Warriors intend to work out guard/forward Troy Brown Jr. and several others during an audition session for veterans, per Kendra Andrews of ESPN.
As we learned earlier this week, free agent forward Davis Bertans is also working out for the Warriors.
Brown, 25, is 6-foot-6 and has spent time with the Washington Wizards, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves since being selected with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2018 draft.
He appeared in 37 games with the Wolves last season, averaging 4.2 points and 1.9 rebounds. He was traded from Minnesota to the Detroit Pistons in a deal at the February deadline. Brown started 12 of 22 games with the Pistons before entering free agency.
While the Warriors are conducting veteran workouts, the truth is, they don’t have any room under the hard salary cap to add another player. They already have 14 players under standard contracts.
That said, two of those players — Lindy Waters and Gui Santos — are on non-guaranteed deals. So a roster spot or two could become available between now and when the season tips off.
And like most teams, Golden State still has a few spots left on its training camp roster. Players signed to camp deals don’t count toward the regular-season roster unless, of course, they make the cut.
The Warriors lost Klay Thompson this offseason (to the Dallas Mavericks), but acquired Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson and De’Anthony Melton as they aim for a return to the playoffs.
