LeBron James has been linked to the Warriors in each of the past two offseasons. Expect it to happen again.
That’s the word from Marc Stein of The Stein Line, who wrote that Golden State is “one of the few credible destinations” for James following the season.
Another, of course, is a third stint with the Cavaliers — exactly 10 years after he led the franchise to its lone championship (over, you guessed it, the Warriors).
James, 41, could also return to the Lakers. But there are some signs that may not be as straightforward as it once seemed.
The Lakers appear focused on building around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, and sources have told Hoops Wire the organization is looking to get younger.
A new deal for James wouldn’t exactly align with that approach.
As for Golden State, the interest isn’t new.
The Warriors explored a trade for James ahead of the 2025 deadline and revisited the idea again last offseason. Both James and agent Rich Paul have acknowledged as much.
So this isn’t speculation out of nowhere. It’s been building.
And it could surface again as the Warriors look to maximize what’s left of the window with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
“It has some legs,” one league source told Stein.
Either way, all three paths make sense — Lakers, Cavs, Warriors. What happens next will likely depend on how the rest of the season plays out.
