It was one preseason game, but Collin Sexton scored 11 points in his debut for the Jazz … off the bench.
If you remember, there was always talk in Cleveland with Sexton on whether he should start … or not.
In Utah, first-time head coach Will Hardy may have answered that question already. Sexton and Jordan Clarkson off the bench? Yeah, feels like Cleveland.
Oh, and let’s not forget Lauri Markkanen, who scored a game-high 20 points in the Jazz’s exhibition loss to the Raptors. Markkanen, of course, starts. He could be Utah’s best player this season.
But again, Sexton came off the bench behind Mike Conley Jr. and Malik Beasley.
The Jazz are reportedly looking to trade Conley, but as long as he’s there, he will start. And the Jazz really like Beasley. At 6-foot-4, he has the height of a shooting guard. At 6-1, Sexton is more of a scoring guard.
Anyway, this is just interesting because the conversation in Cleveland was always whether Sexton should be a starter or reserve. In Utah, we may already know the answer.
Either way, the Jazz are an interesting bunch with the likes of Markkanen, Kelly Olynyk, Beasley, Conley, Sexton, Clarkson, Talen Horton-Tucker, and rookies Walker Kessler and Ochai Agbaji. May not win much, but they’re interesting.
