The Wizards have fired GM Tommy Sheppard after another season of missing the playoffs, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The Wizards confirmed the move in a press release.
”A search for new leadership will begin immediately for an executive from outside the organization,” team owner Ted Leonsis said.
Sheppard has been with the organization for 20 years in one capacity or another, and has served as GM since 2019.
The Wizards have sort of spun their wheels under Sheppard’s reign, failing to establish themselves as more than a first-round playoff contender.
Sheppard hired current coach Wes Unseld Jr. Sources told Hoops Wire they do not believe Unseld’s job is in jeopardy.
Hoops Wire will have more from Washington as this story develops.
Sheppard — who was promoted from interim GM in 2019 — was let go after the Wizards missed the playoffs this season. He had been with the organization since 2003 in the front office. https://t.co/K1jNzYzdET
