The Wizards are encouraged, just not there yet with Anthony Davis.
Davis had his left hand reevaluated Thursday in Los Angeles, with the team saying his recovery is “progressing positively.” The catch is the volar plate ligament hasn’t fully healed, leaving his timeline unchanged.
Washington’s plan is simple — keep things conservative, increase basketball activity as tolerated and check back again at the end of March.
That lines up with what we’ve heard since the trade deadline. There’s been some optimism Davis could return before the April 12 finale, though nothing has suggested any urgency.
The standings explain why. The Wizards sit near the bottom of the league and remain focused on draft positioning, holding a top-eight protected first-round pick.
At the same time, the organization has shown interest in getting its veterans on the floor with the younger core when possible.
Davis, 32, has played just 20 games this season, averaging 20.4 points and 11.1 rebounds.
