Washington Wizards coach Brian Keefe didn’t seem bothered by Trae Young getting ejected Monday night.

In fact, he appreciated it.

Young was tossed during Washington’s loss to the Houston Rockets after stepping onto the court while arguing for a foul call when Houston forward Tari Eason shoved Wizards wing Jamir Watkins. Young has yet to make his on-court debut for Washington and was on the bench when the incident occurred.

Keefe viewed it differently than the officials.

“I think he was just sticking up for his teammates, which I thought was great,” Keefe said after the game. “Obviously, the refs missed a call, which our guy got knocked down, and I loved how our teammates stuck with him.”

Keefe added that the moment reflected the type of competitiveness he wants to see.

“So whatever happened in that moment, I was actually proud of him, because he stuck up for us teammates, and I really care about that type of stuff,” he said.

Young is expected to make his Wizards debut Thursday against the Utah Jazz.
