The Wizards have claimed rookie shooting guard Joel Ayayi off waivers after he was released by the Lakers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Ayayi, 21, is 6-foot-5 and went undrafted out of Gonzaga. He signed a two-way contract with the Lakers on July 30, appearing several preseason games.
The claiming of Ayayi as a two-way player will bring Washington’s roster to a full 17 ahead of the season. He joins guard Cassius Winston as one of the Wizards’ two two-way players.
Ayayi was one of four players released by the Lakers on Friday, along with guards Cameron Oliver and Chaundee Brown, and forward Trevelin Queen.
