The Washington Wizards intend to sign point guard Kira Lewis Jr., small forward Leaky Black and shooting guard Jaylen Nowell to Exhibit 10 training camp contracts, per Josh Robbins and Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Lewis, 23, is 6-foot-1 and was originally selected by the New Orleans Pelicans with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He spent his first three-and-half seasons with the Pelicans before ending up with the Toronto Raptors in a January trade. He appeared in one game with the Raptors, then finished the year with the Utah Jazz.
In 28 games total last season with the Jazz, Raptors and Pelicans, Lewis averaged 3.2 points and 1.3 assists.
Black, 25, is 6-9 and played 26 games with the Charlotte Hornets as a rookie last season after going undrafted out of North Carolina.
Nowell, 25, is 6-4 and was drafted No. 43 overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2019. He spent four seasons with the Timberwolves before ending up with the Memphis Grizzlies, followed by the Detroit Pistons last season.
Nowell carries NBA career averages of 8.9 points and 2.2 rebounds in 197 total appearances.
An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
The Wizards, of course, are in a rebuilding phase. They have not reach 50 wins in a single season since 1979, their last appearance in the Finals.
