Wizards forward Saddiq Bey is making progress from a torn ACL in his left knee and will practice with the team’s G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go, per Josh Robbins of the Athletic.
Bey suffered the injury more than a year ago (March 10, 2024) as a member of the Hawks. Per Robbins, the goal is for Bey to play some games for the Wizards in April.
They have seven games next month. Since they won’t be making the postseason, that will be Bey’s final chance to get in some run this season.
He was acquired by the Wizards over the summer, and then agreed to a three-year contract with the club. Bey is 6-foot-7 and has spent the previous season-and-a-half with Atlanta, averaging 13.7 points and 6.5 rebounds in 63 games in 2023-24, shooting 41.6% from the field and 31.6% on 3-pointers.
The No. 19 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft out of Villanova, Bey began his career with the Detroit Pistons before being traded to the Hawks in February 2023. While not a great shooter, he’s a determined defender and is willing to mix it up underneath.
Washington (15-53) has not reached 50 wins in a season since 1979, when it last made Finals appearance. The Wizards won the championship in 1978, back when they were known as the Bullets.
But as Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN wrote: “The Wizards have played perhaps their best basketball of the season in March. They’ve won four of their past seven games, including consecutive victories at Detroit and Denver. Wednesday’s game at Utah, though, will serve as a reminder of their lottery goals for the No. 1 pick. Both teams are tied at the bottom of the league with 15 wins, and Utah has lost 10 straight games.”
