The Wizards have released rookie guard Joel Ayayi from his two-way deal, a move that was made to sign shooting guard Jordan Schakel.
Ayayi joined the Wizards in October off of waivers, after he was released by the Lakers. He will now become a free agent after 48 hours, should no one claim him again.
Ayayi, 22, is 6-foot-5 and went undrafted out of Gonzaga. He was a key member of last year’s team, which went undefeated in the regular season before losing to Baylor in the NCAA championship game.
He appeared in seven games for the Wizards, and 31 for the G League’s Capital City Go Go, averaging 9.5 points.
