The Philadelphia 76ers conducted a workout that involved several veteran players, including former lottery pick and shooting guard Jarrett Culver, per Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The group also included free agent center Tony Bradley and free agent forwards Stanley Johnson and Sam Dekker, Pompey added. Dekker played for the Houston Rockets back when current 76ers head of basketball operations Daryl Morey was GM there.
“Dekker last played in the league during the 2021-22 season when he played in one game for the Toronto Raptors,” Pompey wrote.
Culver, 25, was originally drafted by the Phoenix Suns with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and was immediately sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He hasn’t lived up to expectations, spending time with the Memphis Grizzlies before signing a two-way deal with the Atlanta Hawks before the 2022-23 season. He appeared in just 10 games with the Hawks and didn’t play for anyone in the NBA this past season.
Johnson, 28, has bounced around the league quite a bit lately, appearing in 30 games with the San Antonio Spurs in 2022-23. He then worked out with the Golden State Warriors last September. The Sacramento Kings acquired him in a G League trade in February, though he was never called up.
He has also spent time with the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons — who selected Johnson with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
While he’s never lived up to his lofty expectations, Johnson is a pretty decent wing defender and carries career averages of 6.2 points and 3.1 rebounds, though is shooting just 39 percent from the field (and 30 percent on 3-pointers).
The 76ers are said to have several bigger-name potential free agents on their radar, including Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George.
