As I do every year on this day, I took three spins on the Tankathon NBA Draft lottery simulator. And as I do every year, I go with the THIRD simulation as my wild prediction on who wins the top pick.
Interestingly, in each of the last two years, the team that won my third simulation also won the actual lottery (Atlanta in 2024, San Antonio in 2023).
That’s good news this year for the Washington Wizards. They haven’t won 50 games in a season since 1979 — but they struck gold this morning in Amico’s Official Tankathon Spin.
Just take a look:
All of this means that Cooper Flagg will be headed to DC, and hey, Washington could use a little good fortune. The Wizards are young, rebuilding, and have been off the radar for a long time. Flagg would immediately make them relevant again.
Of course, it’s not all good news for teams in my simulation. The Utah Jazz and Charlotte Hornets, tied with the Wizards for best lottery odds, dropped to fifth and sixth. Ouch. And the Philadelphia 76ers, who lose their pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder if it falls out of the top six, plummeted to eighth.
I’m OK with the Wizards winning the lottery. Again, they could use the boost in exposure (and likely merchandise sales). But I’d hate to see the Jazz and Hornets drop that low.
That said, all of this means nothing. It’s just for fun, but that’s what pro basketball is all about.
