Suns claim Drew Timme, give him two-way deal

The Suns have added another big man, claiming Drew Timme off waivers and converting his training camp contract to a two-way deal.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype first reported the claim, with John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 confirming the conversion.

Timme fills the final opening in a two-way group Phoenix reshaped Monday. The Suns waived Koby Brea and CJ Huntley, then kept Duop Reath on a two-way contract. Timme and Reath join guard Pat Spencer in those three spots.

The additions give Phoenix more frontcourt options with Mark Williams expected to miss several months following shoulder surgery.

Timme, a former Gonzaga standout, was waived by the Timberwolves on Saturday after spending training camp with Minnesota. The Suns claimed his Exhibit 10 contract before Monday’s deadline to convert those agreements to two-way deals.

The 6-foot-9 forward has appeared in 36 NBA games with the Nets and Lakers, averaging 5.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 13.6 minutes.

He was considerably more productive with the South Bay Lakers last season, averaging 23.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 21 G League games. Timme shot 54.5 percent from the field, doing much of his scoring around the basket.

He went undrafted in 2023 and reached the NBA with Brooklyn late in the 2024-25 season before spending most of last season on a two-way deal with Los Angeles.

Timme will be eligible to appear in up to 50 NBA regular-season games under his new agreement.
