Doc Rivers will return as 76ers coach next season, with head of basketball operations Daryl Morey bringing an end to speculation suggesting otherwise.
When asked if Rivers would be back, Morey simply answered, “Yes,” as relayed by Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice.
Rivers and the 76ers were eliminated from the second round of the playoffs by the Heat. They have yet to advance beyond the second round since Rivers was hired in 2020. He has led them to a 100-54 record during the regular season.
The 76ers had dreams of at least reaching the Finals after landing James Harden from the Nets, pairing him with Joel Embiid. But that didn’t materialize.
Rivers was hired by the regime that preceded Morey, but Morey made it clear that Rivers isn’t going anywhere.
“I just think he’s a great coach and I love working with him,” Morey told reporters. “… I think (general manager) Elton (Brand) and I and him make a great team, and we’re going to see where this journey takes us.”
