Former interim coach Alvin Gentry will now be the Kings’ vice president of basketball operations, reporting to GM Monte McNair, as relayed by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Gentry was not retained as coach after the season, though he and the Kings were reportedly discussing a front office role almost immediately.
Sacramento has since hired current Warriors assistant Mike Brown as head coach.
Per Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee, Gentry will focus on player evaluation. “He will have an office in Sacramento, but will travel to NBA, G League and college sites,” Anderson reported.
The Kings went 24-41 after Gentry replaced the fired Luke Walton in November.
Prior to coaching the Kings, Gentry coached the Pelicans from 2015-20, compiling a 175-225 record. He has also been head coach of the Suns, Clippers, Pistons and Heat, and owns a 534-636 record in 17 seasons overall.
He has one year remaining on his contract, per reports.
