The Jazz intend to interview 76ers assistant and former NBA point guard Sam Cassell for their head-coaching vacancy, per Shams Charania and Tony Jones of The Athletic.
Cassell, 52, has been an assistant under Doc Rivers in Philadelphia since 2020, and was with Rivers and the Clippers from 32014-20. He served as an assistant with the Wizards from 2009-14.
Perhaps most notable is the fact he was a member of the Celtics’ 2008 championship team, which was built by current Jazz CEO Danny Ainge.
At any rate, Cassell is among a more than a dozen reported candidates, with the list also including former Lakers coach Frank Vogel, former Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts and current Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin. You can check out stories all the candidates on our Jazz page right here.
Before becoming a coach, Cassell was a starting point guard in the NBA, winning two titles early in his career with the Rockets (1994 and ’95). He also spent time with the Suns, Mavericks, Bucks, Nets and Timberwolves, before retiring as a member of the Celtics at the end of the 2008 season.
The Jazz are looking to replace Quin Snyder, who stepped down earlier this month after eight years on the job.
