Fraud and theft charges against veteran NBA forward Marcus Morris have been dismissed after he repaid debts owed to two Las Vegas casinos, per Caroline Bleakley of KLAS-TV.
Morris, 35, wrote checks totaling $265,000 in 2024 to obtain gambling credit at the MGM Grand and Wynn Las Vegas. Court documents stated he obtained $115,000 from MGM in May 2024 and $150,000 from Wynn the following month, with the checks later bouncing. Each case carried two felony counts — passing a bad check for $1,200 or more with intent to defraud, and theft valued at $100,000 or more.
He was arrested last month at a South Florida airport after the debts went unpaid. In a series of Instagram posts, Morris said he has taken out markers from the casinos for years and denied any intent to scam, explaining that the money is spent on-site rather than withdrawn.
“I would pay anything to stay outta jail,” Morris wrote. “Money paid back and lesson learned.”
Morris last played in the NBA with the Cavaliers to close the 2023-24 season and went unsigned last year. He appeared in 820 career games with eight teams from 2011-24.
