Former NBA forward Rashard Lewis is being hired as a player development coach under Mitch Johnson with the San Antonio Spurs, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Lewis spent time as a player with the Seattle SuperSonics and Orlando Magic, playing a key role on the 2009 Magic team that advanced to the NBA Finals. That squad also featured the likes of Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson and Hedo Turkoglu and was coached by Stan Van Gundy.
Lewis also spent time with the Washington Wizards and Miami Heat before retiring in 2014. As noted by Scotto, he has spent time as an assistant with the Detroit Pistons.
San Antonio is hoping to take another step this season with a healthy Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox, as well as reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper.
The Spurs finished with a 34-48 record last season and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Johnson is entering his first full season as coach.
