The Trail Blazers have tendered a qualifying offer to guard Anfernee Simons, making him a restricted free agent, the team announced in a press release.
It was a widely expected decision, as the Blazers intend to bring back Simons — though there will certainly be other suitors.
Simons, 23, is 6-foot-3 and averaged a career-high 17.1 points and 3.9 assists last season, his fourth in Portland and the NBA overall. Basically, it was a breakout campaign that is likely to lead to a decent pay raise.
With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see how the situation plays out. The Blazers drafted guard Shaedon Sharpe at No. 7 overall, and are also bringing back Josh Hart, with star guard Damian Lillard expected to be ready for training camp as well.
