Timberwolves
Anthony Edwards might be back already.
Minnesota has upgraded Edwards (hamstring) to questionable for Wednesday at the Knicks. The team originally said he’d be reevaluated after a week — and there was talk this could lean closer to a two–week absence.
Instead, Edwards was cleared for contact on Monday. Now there’s a real chance he plays at Madison Square Garden.
It’d be a massive lift. The Wolves are 2–2 without him. They beat Charlotte and Brooklyn on the road but haven’t had their same edge.
Before the injury, Edwards put up 41 on Portland and 31 vs the Lakers. He averaged 27.6 points last year and made his third All-Star team.
Kings
The Kings have officially signed Precious Achiuwa and waived Isaac Jones, the team announced.
Sacramento has needed depth up front after Keegan Murray went down with that thumb injury. It forced smaller lineups — and more rookie minutes — than coach Doug Christie probably wanted.
Achiuwa fits the need. He’s undersized for a five, not much of a shooter, but he rebounds, he’s athletic, and he can switch. He averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 boards last season. This will be a one-year minimum.
Jones was a nice story. He went undrafted, stuck, and then earned a standard deal. But he couldn’t crack the rotation even with Murray sidelined. His contract was non-guaranteed, so Sacramento won’t take much of a cap hit here.
Grizzlies
Jaylen Wells is trying to shoot his way out of it.
The Grizzlies wing was a Rookie of the Year candidate last season, but has opened Year 2 in a bit of a rut. His splits have fallen from .425/.352/.822 to .352/.256/.643 through seven games.
“Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever missed this many shots in my life,” Wells told reporters, via Damichael Cole of the Commercial Appeal. “But I’m going to keep shooting it. I know how many shots I put in every day.”
