The NBA hit the Cavaliers with a $100,000 fine on Tuesday for violating the league’s Player Participation Policy.
The ruling stems from Cleveland sitting Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley for rest during the Nov. 12 matchup in Miami.
Both are classified as “star players” under the league’s guidelines, and the NBA ruled the Cavs didn’t meet the required criteria to keep them out.
The PPP was adopted before the 2023-24 season and designed to keep marquee names on the floor and preserve the integrity of the regular season. The league clearly felt this one crossed the line.
Cleveland went on to win that night in Miami, but the league still handed down the penalty.
