The Cavaliers just took another hit to their frontcourt depth.

Cleveland announced that Larry Nance Jr. will miss roughly three to four weeks after an MRI revealed a Grade 1 strain of his right soleus (calf). Nance suffered the injury during Friday’s loss in Atlanta.

The Akron native has been in his second stint with the Cavs and has appeared in 16 games this fall, averaging 3.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 15 minutes a night. As has often been the case in his career, the injury bug won again.

The Cavs also updated the status of Jarrett Allen and Sam Merrill. Allen will miss at least a week with a right finger strain after recently trying to play through it.

He already sat out three games before logging 28 minutes against the Hawks, and now he’s expected to miss at least five more. His earliest return looks like Dec. 12 in Washington.

Merrill remains day-to-day with a right hand sprain. He’s missed five straight but was off to a terrific start after signing his four-year, $38 million deal, averaging 13.9 points on 44 percent shooting from deep.

Cleveland’s depth is being tested again, and it’s only December.
