The Knicks have waived forward/center Taj Gibson, the team announced in a press release.
Gibson, 37, is 6-foot-9 and has spent the majority of his career playing for coach Tom Thibodeau — first with the Bulls, then the Timberwolves, and finally the Knicks. He also had a stop with the Thunder in there (2016-17).
He appeared in 52 games last season, averaging 4.4 points and 4.4 rebounds. But with a new cast of big men, Gibson’s days with the Knicks were numbered.
Along with bringing back Mitchell Robinson, the Knicks added center Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency (as well as Jericho Sims). Julius Randle and Obi Toppin also get plenty of minutes up front.
