Hornets
The Hornets are not feeling pressure to make major roster moves despite an 8-18 start, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Scotto said Charlotte remains focused on evaluating its young core and believes rookie Kon Knueppel has quickly emerged as a central figure in the franchise’s plans.
The organization still wants to see an extended look at LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, Knueppel, and Miles Bridges together. Internally, there is belief that a healthy group could compete for a play-in spot, Scotto added.
Miller briefly exited Sunday’s game against Cleveland with an apparent shoulder issue but returned and knocked down a key three late in regulation. Charlotte went on to secure an overtime win.
“It was a huge growth moment for us,” coach Charles Lee said, per Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer. Lee praised Miller’s work on the glass, noting his 13 rebounds as a sign of his two-way potential.
Magic
An MRI confirmed that guard Jalen Suggs suffered a left hip contusion during Saturday’s NBA Cup game against the Knicks, the Magic announced. His return will depend on how he responds to treatment.
Suggs recorded 26 points and seven assists in 29 minutes before being injured on a drive in the third quarter. He is averaging 15.4 points and 4.8 assists this season. Tyus Jones, Anthony Black, and Jett Howard could see expanded roles in his absence.
76ers
Kelly Oubre Jr. continues to progress from a left knee ligament sprain, though a return timeline remains unclear, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Oubre was reevaluated last week and recently completed his first individualized on-court workout since the injury, which has sidelined him since Nov. 14.
Coach Nick Nurse said Oubre has yet to be cleared for practice but acknowledged gradual improvement.
“Nothing new,” Nurse said. “I’m hoping there’s some progress there.”
