Heat would have interest in Mavericks’ Anthony Davis if available

The Heat are not closing the door on Anthony Davis. They are just keeping one eye firmly on a bigger prize.

NBA insider Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report said Miami could pivot to a Davis trade if a pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo ultimately goes nowhere. For now, though, the Heat are clearly treating Giannis as the priority and Davis as a secondary option rather than a simultaneous one.

“Miami, I don’t believe, would really make an all-out effort for Anthony Davis right now until they know for sure that Giannis is not going to be for the taking,” Fischer said. “But that pairing of AD and Bam certainly worked in the Olympics and I would not rule that out as a scenario moving forward.”

That Olympic overlap matters. Davis and Bam Adebayo shared the floor effectively in Paris, which helps ease concerns about positional fit and frontcourt spacing if Miami were to explore that route.

The Heat are 14-12 and ninth in the Eastern Conference, competitive but hardly dominant. A swing of this magnitude would require full commitment, and Miami does not appear ready to do that while the Giannis situation remains unresolved.

Dallas, for its part, is not looking to dump Davis. Fischer reiterated that the Mavericks would only move him for a return of “real consequence.” Davis is making $54.1 million this season, will earn $58.5 million next year, and holds a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28.

He has appeared in 20 games since arriving in Dallas and remains productive when healthy. Availability, as always, is part of the equation.
