The Kings are searching for a point guard again. And one familiar name keeps popping up.

According to Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal, Sacramento has kept an eye on Cavaliers All-Star Darius Garland as it looks for a long-term answer at the position following last season’s trade of De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs.

“The Kings have kept an eye on Garland’s situation,” Afseth wrote, adding that some teams around the league believe Garland would eventually like the chance to run his own team again.

Garland is averaging 16.9 points and 6.5 assists while shooting career-low percentages after offseason toe surgery. He’s also making $39.4 million, which matters in any real conversation.

Cleveland sits at 15-14 after finishing atop the East last season. Sacramento is 7-22 and tied for the league’s worst record.

“Darius is the safest option on the trade market,” one source told Afseth.

Safe doesn’t mean available. But it does mean watched.
