Anthony Davis has been diagnosed with a minor groin strain and is expected to miss multiple games, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Davis suffered the injury during the Christmas Day NBA games matchup between the Mavericks and Warriors, exiting early and not returning. Charania reports that Davis will be evaluated daily, with Dallas expected to proceed cautiously when determining a return timeline.
That approach tracks with how the Mavericks have handled Davis all season.
According to Mike Curtis of the Dallas Morning News, Davis will continue working out daily as he attempts to get back on the floor as soon as possible.
The timing is unfortunate. After missing 14 straight games earlier this season with a left calf strain, Davis had been on a tear. Over his last six games, he averaged 26.3 points and 12.8 rebounds, helping Dallas go 6-2 during that stretch, with wins over the Rockets, Pistons, and Nuggets.
Charania adds that Davis remains a significant figure to monitor ahead of the trade deadline.
With the Mavericks struggling to gain traction in the standings and having already dismissed former general manager Nico Harrison earlier this season, league executives continue to keep a close eye on Dallas’ direction.
